And though they may never get an out-and-out “Wow!” from an observer, I have gotten “I never would’ve seen it that way” or “I never could have done that” which is plenty good for me. ![]() No, they are not big and glamorous, but I enjoy them and they help other people in their worlds and lives. And as time has gone by, I have discovered and accepted where my true virtuosity talents lie. Or at least you managing some area of your life - whether it be an interest, skill or hobby, or simply how you manage your day to day schedule - where you are at least an artist if not a full blown virtuoso.Īs much as I’d like to have a virtuostic performer’s talent, I know, rationally, that my virtuosity is not in performing. Personally, if you are the type of person who is aware of viruosity in others, there’s a good chance you are actually a virtoso of something in your life. I could rattle off a list of my favorite virtuosic performers or performances, but that’s not really what this is about. I just never knew what the medium was for me. I’m fascinated by those people who seem to just have “it.” The thing that makes you watch them perform and say “Wow.” I’ve always wanted to have that for myself. Well, to be honest, its something I think about a lot, but probably not in such formal terms. I’ve been thinking about the idea of Virtuosity a lot lately. You can’t predict how many hours it will take for someone to become a true artist, or if that can even be taught at all. Forget the fact that I think it might take more or less hours depending on how much the person connects with the subject they are studying and “gets it,” for me, the biggest objection that I have to that statement is that there is a HUGE difference between mastering something like the violin and being a virtuoso. But honestly, that’s as far as I can take it. We all have it in us to excel if we choose to dedicate ourselves enough.
